The brief
Matt's existing bathroom was dated and, well, basic. Having spent time collecting art and furniture that expressed a piece of who he is in the rest of his home, he wanted to create a more modern bathroom experience with a better layout to match. He asked us for a walk-in shower to replace his rarely used bathtub and more thoughtfully concealed storage.
The approach
Matt talked us through his list of bathroom grievances that included dull finishes and old plumbing fixtures to inefficient use of space in the current layout. Made quickly came up with an alternate floor plan by relocating fixtures for better usability, switching out his tub for a walk-in shower, and adding smarter features to the space, which creates the feeling of a larger bathroom. Modern matte black fixtures and an ash wood floating vanity topped with a lighted medicine cabinet brought in the clean, modern aesthetic that Matt wanted to pair with the rest of his home. A light-blue gloss tile installed in an angled herringbone pattern brings just the right amount of color to the calming space.
The result
Made transformed Matt's once dull, cramped space into his favorite room in the house. Particular features he loves are the tech-enabled smart toilet and touchless sink faucet. Where he once opened the door to see a toilet staring back at him, he now finds a beautiful walk-in shower framing a window that illuminates the entire space with enough room on the walls and floating shelves for his art, plants and candles.
